I never took an AP class in high school, but apparently I can teach the shit out of Human Geography. Too bad I will now be with elementary PE.

Involvement with the Memphis Police

On the 30th, my purse was stolen from the trunk of my car. I set the purse on the back of my car while I went to remove a hose from the side of the house. I was not away from the purse for more than five minutes and it was taken.

That night I filed a police report that the following were missing:

Purse
Wallet
License
Credit cards
Cell phone
iPod shuffle (the original gen)
Digital camera
270 in cash (post Chistmas :()
Check book
USB drive with all info written for my AP course= Priceless!
Earrings
Keys to house and car
Birth Control... 2 days from New Year's Eve? OUCH!

Total Value= 900 dollars, deductible on home owner's insurance 1000.

That night Jamie changed all the locks on my house so I would feel safer...

The Next Day:

I went to my bank, got new car keys made and tried to get life back to normal.

On the first of 2009 I received a phone call from one of my athletes that the police have found some of my stuff and would bring it by. The police officer comes over with the earrings and the USB drive- yippeee! Apparently it was found in the flower bed of a homeowner about a block from my house. He tells me the road name where it was found. I then went to that road and as I drove through the alley I see my purse. The purse was there with my wallet, id, credit cards and my check book. Cash, keys, cell phone and camera were taken.

I call the cop again and tell him of my findings. He told me he wouldn't take prints as it was sitting out there in the cold for a few days... hmmm. Odd response.

All in all I got MOST of my stuff back. Odds are it was a kid that took the stuff, and a kid I know.

Memphis City cops have more important stuff to do than to help me find my purse... so I guess that is why I found it myself.

When I get over the paranoia that this happened at my own home life will be back to normal.

Happy 2009!

30th Birthday

Fun despite the two friends that left the club puking by 1:00. At least it was not me!

Hmmm

A woman I work with is getting a divorce because she claims her husband is one of those people that never sees how he is guilty or to blame when there is a dispute. And this makes him unique? I find most men unwilling to admit their involvement in a problem. In my experiences, women will back down sooner than men will admit their wrong doing. Therefore, men are trained not to admit wrong doing. I guess I just don't understand her complaint or find it a legitimate reason to get a divorce.

Admit defeat

Bachelor parties have to be more fun than bachelorette parties especially when there are too many bitches involved. I just spent the weekend in Gulf Shores, Alabama wishing I was at home... it sucked.

30th Birthday

Any suggestions of how to celebrate?

Note: Hookers and blow are not options, nor are the strip clubs now that laws have shifted.

Other suggestions welcome!

Crazy Encounter

Tonight Sylvia and I went out to eat around 10:00 and we stumbled upon a large party of roller derby people on the patio of the restaurant. They ran around the restaurant trying to poke one another in their coochie coos. It was ridiculous, but like a train wreck we couldn't keep our eyes off of it. They were chasing one another around not concerned with the tables that were not part of the group. They even tried to poke the waitress. She was not happy.

When going to the bathroom we felt our vaginas to be unsafe... they were not picky about who they poked, or hell fisted from time to time. Quite the scene.

My day...

Original Thought: Getting a cavity filled when you have a St Patty's day hangover. Not fun.

Current Thought: Hangover + Dentist + Numbing Gas= Priceless.

Hangover gone....

So not perfect... but more okay with it....

A few weeks ago I experienced something pretty odd to me. I took a quiz during a graduate class (fairly common experience for me) and I felt I did just fine. As the professor went over the quiz, once we had handed them in, I got very upset. I felt like such a failure. It was an easy quiz and yet as he went over the answers I got increasingly upset as I felt I was getting more than the 3 questions "cushion" (we could get three questions wrong and get an A), incorrect. This consumed me the rest of the class (two hours) and for the rest of the evening. I remember going to bed feeling so disappointed in myself for making such stupid errors on the quiz.

The next morning, I wondered why I could not let the errors on the quiz go the previous night. And I really didn't get what the big deal was. I was clearheaded the next day and life moved on.

Weeks later I am reminded of that weird experience. One, because it was idiotic, but now I can see that somehow that quiz identified me that night. In that moment, the quiz represented all that I was worth. Therfore, seemingly, I was not "full credit" or "perfect". Somehow where I stood that day with the quiz was not a good place. It was a place where I needed that perfect score or A to feel valued, perfect, revered, whatever it was.

Now I can see my actions were silly, and I am hopeful I can recognize that more quickly when I overeact to a minor error or when I get sensitive over something that really is not a big deal.

The point of the post is to remind me of this experience when I look back at my journal. But the kicker of the story (for those that read all of this)is that I got an A on the quiz. I only made one error. In the end, the bigger error that night was wasting energy and time beating myself up about my imagined failure.

Good friends and fun....

Great weekend! Hard not to be happy with two sunny days at 70 degrees. Spring is in the air....

O'Charleys and Clean-up

This morning I had to get up at six to go serve pancakes at O'Charleys for the track and field team. We, the coaches and kids, served like 150 people a pancake breakfast as a team fundraiser. We made over a thousand dollars in 3 hours, which was great, but it was some hard ass work. I have new respect for those that have spent serious times busing tables, serving food etc. Not my bag....

The cool thing was that kids were willing to step up and do most of the work. Also, the O'Charleys staff that cooked the pancakes and did the dishes were all volunteering their time to help the team.

After the breakfast kids were asked to come to the track to clean up the facility before our first meet. Again, we had a good turn-out and kids were willing to do whatever we asked. We really do have some good kids out there. It helped that it was close to 70 degrees today.

See, there still is good out there in the world....

Illness...

I got sick again... flu symptoms once again. As a result, I didn't go to grad class. This is the first class I have skipped at Memphis in three years. So why do I feel guilty?
